Focusing on Hot Lead
In my last post I mentioned I'll be attending Hot Lead in March. Pre-registration of games just recently occurred and I should have an opportunity to play a number of different games from different eras! Expect a debrief here in late March.
Hobby time yet again has been limited due to work. I did get a little bit more prep work done on the Sarmatian army which is currently fully primed.

As I want to paint this army all in one go I had been thinking a bit about how to approach batch painting this efficiently. The use of AI in our hobby is a hot topic these days. I feel every strongly it should not be used for creative work in most circumstances but as a productivity and organizational tool I think there is a lot of potential for AI in tabletop wargaming.
In my more boring work side of life I use AI tools quite a bit. Mostly around quickly iterating on strategic ideas or looking for trends in large data sets that can inform strategy. I'm by no means an AI pro but I've been exposed to AI best practices for some time now and like to think I've got a decent grasp of how to use it well.
With this Sarmatian project I decided to test out letting AI run a distribution of types of horses within the army. This went quite well and will let me have a realistic ratio of horses colours without having to really put much time into planning it myself.

The tool also was able to quickly spit out a spreadsheet for me organizing each figure of each base using a simple identification system. This should let me paint this army very rapidly without my usual analysis paralysis.

This post is less hobby focussed than I'd like but unfortunately with how little paint time I've had this has been my hobby recently. I hope to experiment some more with AI tools from a hobby perspective this year so I will look to share my thoughts and learnings as that progresses. Hopefully in a week or so I'll have some actual paint progress to show.
